Counselling Services Scheme
Over the years, Keswick Foundation (KF) has funded several projects related to counselling services for different target groups in need. In 2013, KF decided to explore counselling services available in Hong Kong and the challenges faced by those NGOs providing such services.
It was found that in residential setting the number of children and youth with special educational needs, mental health and complicated family issues has been rising but young residents are unable to receive intensive counselling services due to inadequate manpower. In 2016, KF set up a three year Counselling Services Scheme (CSS) to provide timely support and prove the importance of the role of counsellor in residential care services.
CSS has funded the following NGOs to employ a counsellor:
- Evangel Children’s Home
- Home Care for Girls
- Hong Kong Christian Service
- The Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong
The training backgrounds of the recruited counsellors are different, including clinical psychology, counselling and social work.
In addition, the Centre on Behavioural Health, the University of Hong Kong, was invited to conduct regular clinical supervision for the four counsellors and evidence based research.
